TurboTax Deluxe Desktop Rollback 2017 - 2018

Yank up on those bootstraps! TurboTax Deluxe Desktop for 2017 - 2018 won't come with that pampering $25 subsidy you may have received in previous year.

They messed up! TurboTax has admitted that they made a mistake by changing the TurboTax Deluxe Desktop Tax Software by restricting some features that in turn forced some taxpayers to upgrade to the Premier Edition.

Made a mistake? well, we all question whether it was a mistake, or was it a manipulation intended to squeeze more money out of customers by forcing them to upgrade?

TurboTax states that they did not handle this change in a respectful way to loyal customers. Hmmm?

In a nutshell, TurboTax stated that new online and mobile technologies caused features to differ in scope. Huh?

They go on to say that TurboTax desktop products still contain their unique abilities to be able to e-file up to five tax returns, switch to forms mode, and install the software on multiple computers. Well, that should be expected in my opinion...

TurboTax Deluxe Desktop Changes

The TurboTax Deluxe Desktop changes were made to both the download and CD versions, and they included removing Schedule C (self employed), Schedule D (capitol gains and losses) , Schedule E (rental property), and Schedule F (farms) from TurboTax Deluxe.

This in turn forced TurboTax Deluxe customers to upgrade even though their tax situation hadn't changed from the prior year.

TurboTax Claims They Are Making It Right? Really? Or Is It Temporary?

TurboTax states they are making it right through the software transition year. OK, there you have it, Temporary subsidizing!

TurboTax offered to give back $25 if you had purchased TurboTax Deluxe desktop software (CD or download) and had to upgrade to the TurboTax Premier or TurboTax Home & Business edition to file your tax return. Yup! Temporary Fix!!!

Now I'm no rocket scientist but this still looks like a big issue for long time customers going forward. Just seems like a little  pampering was done to get  through the initial shock year, then off to the races with upping the ante by continuing to force upgrades without the gift of future compensation.

If you can tolerate this, then sticking with TurboTax is the option you may want to choose for continuing future tax preparation.

TurboTax Deluxe Comparison Screen Shot

Here is a screenshot that allows consumers to compare the features between the basic, deluxe, premier, and home and business editions to see what works best for their tax filing needs.

No doubt many previous customers will no doubt become x-customers over the changes when they determine that other brands like H&R Block offer a more diverse selection of abilities for a lower price. Its got to irk some who will flip to a new brand.

However, if money is not a concern to you, then just step up a notch to the TurboTax Premier Edition and get on with your business of preparing and filing your tax return.

It ain't that big a cost change, and if you've enjoyed the TurboTax line of products in the past, there is no doubt you will continue to enjoy the quality products they make to help all consumers with their tax filing tasks each and every year.

It's now a new tax season approaching and with that comes more critics so beware TurboTax. Hopefully the smoke has lifted and all this hoopla has blown over.

You never know how your customer base will react from year to year, but when you start digging deeper into their pocketbooks, you most likely with create a temperamental response...
